5 Newsletter Ideas That Can Make You $1M+
and that you can start this weekend
Since you’re on this list, I reckon you already have a newsletter or you want to start one. Or even start your next one (no, it doesn’t count as an addiction!)
And sometimes all you need is an idea to reassure you that this is the right path to take.
So, today I want to share 5 newsletter ideas that, I believe, you can start in 2025 and scale to 7-figures.
This type of newsletter has been gaining in popularity in recent months.
All because more people and companies are using newsletters to capitalise on the downfall of local media. No one cares about old and obsolete local magazines that cover everything from crime to dinner recipes.
This opens a wide avenue for newsletters that want to serve a local audience in a very specific way. And there are plenty of ways to approach it.
For example, you could focus solely on local politics or cover no politics at all and cover only positive news from your area.
You could also focus on covering events, sports games, or charity happenings.
Some examples in this category are:
Top-level advice is a fairly saturated market in the newsletter niche. You can easily find tens of business, marketing, or finance newsletters.
But can you find one covering business for SMBs under $5M revenue in tech?
Or one about marketing for YouTubers with less than 100,000 subscribers?
Niching down is great advice when you’re thinking about starting a newsletter. The more specific you can be the easier it’ll be for you to target the right audience and monetize it.
People naturally choose topics that are specific to their problems and situations. So, if a founder wants to improve their business, they’ll choose a newsletter that covers topics relevant to their business size, revenue, and business model instead of opting into a generic, WSJ-style newsletter.

This one is a catch-all category because every newsletter can be a paid newsletter but not every newsletter should be.
The best newsletters in this category will be very specific niche newsletters but ideally not niche enough to struggle to convert your free audience into paid subscriptions.
The most important thing to remember in this scenario is ROI.
If you want to launch a paid newsletter, you need to focus on providing more (tangible) value than the cost of a subscription. That’s why, many paid newsletters have other components like online courses, community, or events.

Newsletters and exclusivity can go hand in hand.
While this model is the hardest to pull off, it also has the potential to reach the highest revenue per customer.
In this scenario, you’re taking a hyper-niche newsletter, targeting one specific topic but you switch it to an invite-only mode. People can either apply to join your newsletter or be invited by someone who’s already in.
To do it successfully, you’ll need to have gated access to some resources, information, or people to make it appealing for people to want to join.
There’s also an obvious factor of exclusivity and being a part of a club or having almost insider-level information that others can’t get to.
Examples:
This is the simplest model to start with, especially if you don’t have enough expertise to create content yourself or to speak from experience.
In this scenario, you’re doing the hard work of aggregating resources from certain categories so that it’s easier for others to browse and consume. You’re cutting out the noise, labour, and time that it’d otherwise take to get to that piece of information.
A good idea in terms of a curation newsletter is to choose a high-ROI topic.
For example, instead of curating events for students, it’s better to curate the newest financial reports for Fortune 500 CEOs.
A curation newsletter has a low barrier to entry but if you choose your niche wisely, you can still make it very profitable.
