Why growing your newsletter feels impossible

In partnership with

Howdy,

Let’s talk about why newsletters are often treated as the last piece of content that you need to create.

You’ve written your posts.

Recorded your videos.

Everything is scheduled.

And then you have to sit down and write the damn newsletter. And when do you do it? Of course, on the same day you want to send it.

I’m not saying that I have never been guilty of writing and sending a newsletter on the same day 👀 but there’s an easier way.

Let me explain.

What dictates when you’re going to write a newsletter is its place in your content creation ecosystem.

If it goes like YouTube video → social media content → newsletter, you’ll always treat it as that last, annoying thing that still needs to be written.

But if we flip the script and go newsletter → YouTube video → social media content, your newsletter suddenly becomes a priority that feeds the rest of the system.

This will obviously depend on the style of your content and your current priorities but given that a well-structured newsletter can be (pretty easily) turned into a video script, 5-10 social media posts and 1-2 longer threads, it’s worth prioritising it over everything else.

After all, it’s your newsletter that’s responsible for the majority of conversions and not your social media profiles but (often because of vanity metrics) we prioritize the latter.

Treating your content creation process as a sort of flywheel will help you save time and frustration.

I’ve worked with creators with over 100,000 newsletter subscribers who were still struggling to write their newsletters and to get it sent on time.

Yet, 80% of their revenue ultimately came through email.

I’m not saying to treat your audience-building activities as secondary goals. No.

These should go hand in hand.

But your newsletter can support those activity and if you put it in the right place in the content creation process, it can make that system even more efficient.
